[uitv:5] WAVe: Workshop on Analytics on Video-based Learning, Final paper deadline: February 15, 2013

“WAVe: Workshop on Analytics on Video-based Learning http://wave.di.ionio.gr/ We are pleased to announce the WAVe: Workshop on Analytics on Video-based Learning, to take place on April 8/9th 2013. WAVe is organized in conjunction with the 3rd Conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge and hosted by the University of Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. The Workshop aims to be an interactive, engaging experience that will motivate participants to get involved and start fruitful discussions on the topic of Video-Based Learning and the potential benefits of Analytics. For that, it will combine several activities. On the one hand, a highly recognized keynote speakers will open the workshop. On the other hand, the Workshop would like to give to participants the opportunity to be engaged into creative and motivating discussions about the key issues related to analytics on video-based learning. We are proud to announce that Dr. George Siemens and Dr. David Geerts will give keynote presentations in the workshop. With the widespread adoption of video-based learning systems such as Khan Academy and edX, new research on the area of Learning Analytics and personalized learning has emerged. Even new for-profit companies, such as Coursera and Udacity, have started offering forms of instruction that are primarily video-based. To date, universities across the globe (Stanford, Oxford, MIT and some 800 other schools) offer video lectures on topics from Algebra to Zoology. Many instructors in higher education are implementing video lectures in a variety of ways, such as broadcasting lectures, augmenting recordings of in-class lectures with face-to-face meetings for review purposes, and delivering lecture recordings before class to “flip the classroom” and provide hands-on activities during class time. Other uses include showing videos that demonstrate course topics and providing supplementary video learning materials for self-study. As such, video has emerged as one of the premier media for learning. To explore the future of video-based technologies for teaching and learning, we aim to build a research community around this topical area, to brainstorm about what the next generation of video-based learning tools might look like and what kind of data they can collect that will help us to better understand the value these technologies. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to the intersection of video lectures, learning analytics, and: • design issues for video learning authoring tools • big data obtained from video learning systems • instructional video capturing, editing, and sharing • mobile-based (tablet, smart-phone) video learning • participatory video course development • infrastructure and technological issues with video learning • cultural issues in video learning systems • asynchronous video mediated personal communication • asynchronous and synchronous web casting systems • creative uses of video by the students • social networks, communication, and collaboration • peer instruction and peer grading • the role of video in the flipped classroom • user modeling, adaptation and personalization • usability and interaction design • pedagogy in massive online open courses (MOOCs) We cordially invite researchers who are interested on Learning Analytics and their application on Video-Based Learning. WAVe provides an environment where participants get opportunities to: develop their research skills; increase their knowledge base; collaborate with others in their own and complementary research areas; discuss their own work; and get the opportunity to publish the outcome of their upcoming research in a special issue of an established journal. Call for participation Interested researchers should submit a 4-6 pages position paper in the ACM CHI extended abstract format to the workshop management system. Papers will be published online as part of the CEUR Workshop proceedings series. CEUR-WS.org is a recognized ISSN publication series, with ISSN 1613-0073, open access availability and several index services (e.g., DBLP, Scholar). Extended versions of workshop papers will be also published to a special issue of the International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning (iJET). All presentations from Workshop participants will be made available online through the Workshop Web site and the video presentations through videolectures.net. Papers should be original and not previously submitted to other venues. All the papers submitted will be reviewed using a blind referring process by at least two members of the program committee. Submission is available through the EasyChair submission system: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wave2013 You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "UITV.INFO" group.
